HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
The city of Agadir recently witnessed an escalation in the tension between the taxi professionals of the second category and the municipal council, against the backdrop of what the workers in the sector consider a continuous marginalization of their demands and the lack of their involvement in the decisions that concern the organization of the profession within the urban area.
The professionals confirm that the situation of the sector is directly affected by a series of imbalances, the most prominent of which is the absence of effective communication with the municipal council, in exchange for adopting approaches they described as ad hoc in managing urban transport affairs, which has negatively affected working conditions and the normal flow of service provided to citizens. The list of demands tops the reorganization of parking spaces for taxis of the second category, by returning the signs that define their locations within the city, in a way that ensures clarity in exploitation and avoids chaos. The professionals also emphasize the need to review some organizational decisions that restrict the movement of taxis, especially those related to the prohibition signs within the urban area, considering that they do not take into account the specificity of their activity and do not conform to the laws governing the sector. In the same context, professional bodies express their rejection of what they describe as a policy of exclusion, demanding the establishment of a serious and responsible dialogue that ensures the participation of professional actors in making decisions related to the facility, and achieves a balance between the requirements of urban organization and ensuring the continuity of the sector's work in fair and equitable conditions. The professionals warn that the continuation of the current situation may increase the intensity of the tension within the sector, confirming their determination to continue expressing their demands until a tangible response is achieved that restores consideration to their vital role in the urban transport system in the city.
