HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Musaed
The "Al-Wifaq" Association for the owners and professionals of construction materials transport trucks in the Berkane region announced its entry into an escalation step, which consists of a comprehensive boycott of loading construction waste throughout the region, in protest against what it described as "the rampant chaos" witnessed by the construction waste management sector.
In a statement received by the "HIBAPRESS" website, the association attributed this decision to the absence of a clear strategy from the elected councils and the supervisory authorities to provide a legal and sustainable landfill that meets environmental standards, confirming that the current situation is no longer bearable in light of the growing phenomenon of haphazard disposal of demolition and construction remains in black spots and along roads and open lands, a behavior that offends the aesthetics of the region's cities and harms its environment. The professionals expressed their outright rejection of practices that lack national and professional sense, stressing their disavowal of any truck owner proven to be involved in dumping waste in places other than those designated for it, while at the same time announcing their determination to monitor and expose anyone who exploits the absence of a landfill to pollute the city's environment. The association considered that this irresponsible behavior puts the honest professional in the position of the accused and constitutes a stab in the efforts to structure the sector, which prompted them to take the decision to refrain from loading as an initial step within a programmed struggle program aimed at pushing the authorities to assume their responsibilities in providing the legal alternative. In the context of its urgent demands, the association called for the suspension of demolition permits until a legal landfill is found that meets professional requirements and technical standards, provided that its geographical location is close to avoid draining the professionals' pockets in fuel costs. The association also demanded that the local authorities and the administrative police tighten control and apply the maximum penalties to anyone who commits "environmental crimes", while directing an invitation to hold an urgent meeting with the supervisory authorities to develop a road map that saves the city's aesthetics and guarantees professionals a legal space to work that preserves their professional dignity.
