The Moroccan Association of Mathematics Teachers has warned the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education and Sports against resorting to “foreigners” to fill the shortage of mathematics teachers during the next school season.

The same association noted “the spectacular and increasing decline from year to year in the number of candidates for the competitive examinations for access to the regional centres for education and training professions, specialising in mathematics”, which “resulted in the ministry being forced during the 2023-2024 season to open the competition three times and over extended periods, and finally to resort to licenses in other specialisations in economic sciences, life and earth sciences and physics… To fill the shortage.

In a statement, the association described these measures as “prosthetic measures which have had serious consequences on the quality of mathematics teaching in the three education streams, particularly the secondary stream.”

Regarding the professional aptitude exams organized a few days ago, the same association called for “adopting a promotion rate of 14% for each specialty and each sector in order to eliminate the injustice that affects teachers of certain subjects, particularly mathematics teachers.”

This is why the mathematics teachers have requested that “the demands of the category be included among the priority files that require rapid intervention, because without this, the pioneer school and the projects aimed at advancing the educational system in general and mathematics in particular will continue to fall short of the desired results.” expectations.

The Moroccan Association of Mathematics Teachers concluded that it was necessary to overcome the “confusions” that accompanied the national educational issue during the closing academic year, and to work to correct them by the supervising ministry during the next 2024/2025 season.
