Marrakech: Arrest of a “Daesh” supporter suspected of preparing large-scale terrorist projects

The Marrakech judicial police arrested, on Monday, on the basis of information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a supporter of the terrorist organization “Daesh”, suspected of preparing large-scale terrorist projects targeting sensitive sites in the Kingdom, indicates the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ).

According to a press release from the BCIJ, which is part of the DGST, this operation resulted in the seizure of electronic equipment, a plastic bottle containing a suspicious liquid substance and a quantity of chemical powder, which will be submitted for examination by the competent authorities.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this 18-year-old individual, who has imbibed the extremist thinking of “Daesh” and who has pledged allegiance to the alleged emir of this terrorist organization, has acquired expertise in the manufacture of explosive devices in order to carry out his subversive project, adds the same source.

In parallel with his terrorist project, the suspect established contacts with Daesh intermediaries in order to facilitate his joining one of the branches of this organization in the Sahel region, it was specified, adding that the arrest of this individual and the abortion of his terrorist projects are the result of close coordination between the DGST and its counterparts in foreign intelligence services.

The accused was placed in police custody at the disposal of the judicial investigation conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the prosecution in charge of terrorism cases, with a view to shedding light on all the extremist acts of which he is accused, and to identify his possible links with other terrorist organizations, the press release concludes.
