Following the decision of French President Emmanuel Macron to support Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, Finland became, on Tuesday, the first Nordic country to support the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, writes the French daily newspaper “Les Echos”.

The newspaper, which recalls the history of the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara fueled by Algeria, underlines that “supporters of the Algerian position are rare”.

“Over the years, their number has shrunk to nothing,” notes the daily, which lists the many states that have withdrawn their recognition of the phantom “sadr” and those that have never recognized it.

The newspaper, which also echoes the countries that supported Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Sahara and the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, recalls that at the end of July, “France went even further, by affirming that +the present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty+”.
