Google Stops Production of Chromecast Media Players
Hibapress / Radio-Canada
Google has announced that it is stopping production of its affordable Chromecast media players, which have sold more than 100 million units worldwide since their launch in 2013.
The Chromecast is a small device with an HDMI tip that plugs directly into a TV to make it smart. It gives access to thousands of applications, including Netflix, Tou.tv or Crave. It also allows you to stream images from a computer, tablet or smartphone to your TV, without being limited by a wire.
But one of its biggest advantages is its price. In Canada, for around forty dollars, you can get the latest generation of Chromecast, released in 2022. Its affordable price made it accessible to millions of people and made it the ideal gift for many people.acknowledged Majd Bakar, Google’s vice president of engineering, health and home, in a blog post.
Google, however, says it is ripe for change, arguing that technology has evolved dramatically since the launch of the first generation 11 years ago.
