HIBAPRESS
The Public Prosecution at the Court of Appeal in Kenitra has opened a judicial investigation into statements made by Member of Parliament and candidate for the Justice and Development Party, Mustafa El Ibrahimi, during a party meeting in the city. He spoke about a large quantity of drugs and the possibility of using its proceeds to influence the electoral process.
The Public Prosecution's action, according to a statement from the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Kenitra, came after clips of the statement circulated on some social media platforms. The prosecution ordered an investigation to ascertain the details and circumstances of what was stated and to take the necessary legal actions.
El Ibrahimi had spoken during a communication meeting organized by the Justice and Development Party in Kenitra on the evening of Sunday, August 30, about a quantity of drugs he said amounted to 270 tons, and linked its proceeds to the possibility of influencing elections and buying influence within elected institutions.
According to media reports quoting his statements, El Ibrahimi said that whoever sold this quantity could not only "buy the ballot box" or a rural commune, but could also reach Parliament and the government, warning that the entities he spoke about pose a danger to the state.
The Public Prosecution's statement did not name El Ibrahimi, contenting itself with referring to "one of the candidates for the upcoming legislative elections." However, the congruence of the published data regarding the statement with what El Ibrahimi stated during the party meeting in Kenitra confirms that he is the one concerned.
The Public Prosecutor confirmed that the opening of the investigation comes within the framework of the roles entrusted to the Public Prosecution to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, and in its keenness to guarantee the proper application of the law and the fairness of electoral outcomes.
