The Court of First Instance in Tangier, at the beginning of the week, concluded the case of a 28-year-old young man, after sentencing him to one year of effective imprisonment, on the grounds of content he published on social media platforms addressing social conditions and the phenomenon of irregular migration to occupied Ceuta.
The case dates back to posts and videos that were circulated through the concerned individual's accounts on social media platforms, some of which he filmed himself, while he reposted other materials. The content included matters related to irregular migration and attempts to reach occupied Ceuta.
According to the available information, the Public Prosecution followed up on the young man while he was in custody on charges related to incitement via electronic means to commit misdemeanors and felonies, in addition to insulting public officials and an organized body while performing their duties.
The security services had arrested him on August 20th, before presenting him to the Public Prosecution and referring him to the court.
On the other hand, the concerned individual's family states that the published content was within the framework of expressing positions and comments on the social reality and migration. The Moroccan Association for Human Rights also raised, according to local sources, the issue of one of the case's hearings being held in the absence of the defense, due to the national lawyers' strike.
This sentence comes amid the authorities' strictness in dealing with digital content related to calls for irregular migration, especially in the northern region, where social media platforms have witnessed the circulation of posts and clips related to attempts to reach occupied Ceuta in the recent period.
