Second for Algeria: Iman Khalif wins gold medal
Algerian Iman Khalif managed to snatch the gold medal in the 66kg boxing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by beating China’s Yang Liu on points on Friday evening. This is Algeria’s second medal in Paris after that of gymnast Kilia Nammour.
Khalif has become one of the stars of the current games in the French capital, but for a reason she probably did not want.
Khalifa’s suffering began when she and fellow Taiwanese Li Yu-teng were banned from last year’s world championships by the Russian-dominated International Boxing Federation, which claims both boxers failed one of the women’s eligibility tests, the details of which are still unannounced.
