HIBAPRESS – Tangier
Tangier Med Port and its associated industrial ecosystem have emerged as one of the foremost drivers of Morocco's rise as an industrial and exporting power in Africa, according to a recent report by "New African" magazine. The magazine indicated that the Kingdom has relied on its logistical infrastructure, industrial zones, and its proximity to Europe to enhance its integration into global value chains.
The report highlighted the automotive sector, which comprises over 250 local and international companies, with industrial ecosystems linked to Renault in Tangier and Stellantis in Kenitra. The current production capacity stands at approximately one million vehicles annually, while Morocco aims to double this to two million vehicles by 2030.
The magazine considered that Tangier Med Port and the network of industrial zones and suppliers have contributed to connecting Moroccan industry to European and global markets. The percentage of locally manufactured components reached about 69%, while automotive sector exports recorded a record figure of 157 billion dirhams during 2024.
Morocco's industrial ambition is not limited to traditional cars; it is moving towards developing the electric car and battery industry through major projects in this field, alongside the expansion of the Stellantis plant in Kenitra. According to the report, this path reflects Morocco's gradual transition from assembly to component manufacturing and the development of advanced industrial chains.
