Moroccan National Press Union involved in targeting and defamation campaigns
Heba Press – Rabat
The National Union of the Moroccan Press issued a statement in which it expressed its great concern and dissatisfaction with a series of articles and videos that partly dealt with the media situation in our country with great abuses, and in another part attacked the union itself, targeting a number of women members and members of the organs of the National Union of the Moroccan Press, as part of a systematic campaign that used… It contains language that draws from a dictionary full of defamation, insults and defamation, which sometimes reaches the point of individual intimidation.
The communication stated the following:
As much as we believe in and are keen to preserve freedom of expression and opinion in an unlimited manner, we also stress the importance of linking this freedom to responsibility and respect for the freedoms and dignity of others, which prompts us to express the following:
The slogan “create the profession of journalist”, which has become accessible to everyone to express their opinion on this subject, does not give the right to mislead the information provided and the data expressed, which have no relation to the reality of the situation expressed. On the contrary, the failure to investigate the authenticity of the data used to target people in positions of responsibility exceeds its legitimate scope to the point of settling scores, no less dangerous than the excuses it invokes.
We strongly condemn all reckless expressions that make the lives of individuals permissive, and the harm they cause goes beyond the harm caused to the lives of the targeted person’s entourage. What is the fault of the families of the defamed persons and what is the benefit of directly attacking them. the debts and lives of the individuals who bear responsibility for them, and how can one understand the intention of criticizing for the sake of correction in such a situation?
We consider that the exploitation by some people of unregulated communication spaces and the inability to activate legal mechanisms of responsibility for defamation and intimidation committed against citizens, men and women, encourage the persistence of the practice of terrorism of “pocket, mouth and word”, with the aim of subjugating each other and blackmailing at other times, and creating “sabotage”. All the laws, customs and values of “Tamgrabit” are trampled under the banner of “fighting corruption”, while these people, with their childish actions and behavior, move away from the principles of this slogan.
The National Union of the Moroccan Press believes, and even considers, that a flagrant abuse of freedom of expression constitutes a serious danger for the achievements of years of struggle for human rights, and even doubts the aims and objectives behind this dilution targeting the media domain.
In all audacity, the union states that the harmony of irresponsible actions targeting individuals and institutions, which amount to harassment, targeting privacy to the point of threatening existing families with criminal tools, is a practice that targets freedom of expression in itself and constitutes criminal acts that deserve the opening of an investigation into all parties involved.
This is why we renew our call to the public prosecutor and all competent authorities to open an urgent investigation in order to uncover all the threads of this organized network, of planners and executors, which constitutes a threat to the reputation of the country and the sanctity of its institutions.
The ambition to improve the profession and purify its environment from impurities and thorns is today met with mixed papers and various masks to deplore this common diagnosis. The aim is to prevent the sector’s reform workshops from entering the legal mechanism to maintain the chaos. which feeds the opponents of the profession and those who infiltrate its high authority, and to make it a blackmail plot, inside and outside, all those who contribute to this miserable climate of rivalry are accused of perpetuating this situation.
The seriousness of what these rogue groups and individuals are doing, whether inside or outside, is not only damaging to the National Union of the Moroccan Press – a trade union organization and leading leaders – but also extends to systematically harming national institutions, such as the image of Morocco. as if it had no judicial system or public prosecutor. It protected the rights, honor and dignity of people, and without legal, moral and legal control bodies, it is as if we were facing a country considered a hotbed of chaos and depravity, not a state of institutions that enjoy security and stability.
While stressing that legitimate criticism of the sector and its players is in the service of progress and development, the union stresses that this criticism will cause serious harm to this company if these dirty means are used.
This is why he calls on everyone to appreciate the importance of this stage in the history of our sector, to refrain from any complicity in maintaining this decadent and miserable atmosphere and to move towards a deep and serene discussion to formulate solutions and visions for the future of the sector, trade and professionals.
8- While the union recalls the priorities of the sector consisting of producing a legal system that protects and strengthens the profession and professionals, and clinging to respect for professional ethics and noble practices to restore the reputation of this sector, and valuing the human element in it by accelerating the After signing the collective agreement, it calls on journalists and workers, men and women, to separate the real debate from the chaos, with the creativity with which some try to distract us, and to carry out the tasks of building a sector worthy of the title of Fourth Estate and “His Majesty”.
