A member of the Authenticity and Modernity team in the House of Representatives, Abdel Latif Al-Zaim, addressed in a written question: “The disappointment of Moroccans with the results of the Paris Olympics.”

Al-Zaeem said in a question addressed to the Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, that “despite the significant investments made by the Moroccan government and the National Olympic Committee in the preparation of athletes, the results were far from those he hoped for.” as he said.

He said: “The disappointing results recorded by Moroccan sport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games lead us to question the real reasons for this failure, especially since Moroccan supporters, who hoped to see their champions on the podium, felt very disappointed.”

He stressed that “what happened reflects the fundamental imbalances suffered by sports management in Morocco that prevented the achievement of the expected results despite the significant investments made by the Moroccan government and the National Olympic Committee in the preparation of athletes”, which calls according to him for “firm measures and radical changes have become urgent to guarantee significant results and to achieve the objectives that Moroccan supporters expect from their athletes in international forums.”

The MP asked “the real reasons for this major failure and whether the government intends to open a thorough investigation into these results and hold those responsible to account.” He also inquired about the plans and measures the ministry plans to take to reform the sports sector in Morocco and ensure that the significant financial support is transformed into tangible successes on the international stage in the future.

The Bigidi team had requested the presence of the Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, as well as many former sports champions and training personnel, to discuss the reasons for Parisian mediocrity.

The move comes in light of growing criticism over the decline in sporting standards in Morocco over the past two decades, with the exception of football.
