The area behind one of the cafes in the city center, between the new preparatory secondary school and Moulay Ali Cherif preparatory secondary school in the city of Al Hoceima, is experiencing a state of anxiety and resentment among a number of residents, in light of the presence of a person in the area during late hours of the night, and sometimes extending to the morning hours, amidst talk about the possibility of him carrying a melee weapon.
According to testimonies circulating among some residents of the area, the person in question takes the place as shelter during the night hours, while his presence near educational institutions has raised fears among a number of citizens, given the daily passage of students and children through the area.
Sources from the residents confirmed that, in their estimation, this is not a fleeting case of homelessness, which has prompted them to demand that the situation be dealt with seriously, especially in light of what is being circulated about the person in question carrying a melee weapon, data that remains in need of field verification by the competent authorities.
According to the testimonies of the complainants, the issue has been raised before and complaints have been submitted regarding it, but the situation still persists, which has brought back to the forefront demands for the intervention of security services and local authorities to ascertain the truth of what is happening and take the necessary action according to the law.
The residents demand urgent field intervention, not with the aim of directing premature accusations at anyone, but to verify the situation and ensure the safety of citizens, students, and passers-by, and to avoid any possibility of an accident with incalculable consequences.
The determination of the nature of the situation and responsibility for it remains the prerogative of the competent security authorities, which are expected to inspect the location and take appropriate measures to ensure security and reassurance in the vicinity of educational institutions.
