HIBAPRESS-RABAT-PRESS RELEASE

The Moroccan people have just celebrated, yesterday Wednesday August 14, 2024, the 45th anniversary of the recovery of the province of Oued Eddahab, a historic step in the process of completing the territorial integrity of Morocco, and this, in an atmosphere marked by the constant mobilization of all Moroccans around the first Cause of the Kingdom.

On August 14, 1979, the ulama, notables and tribal chiefs of the province of Oued Eddahab went to the Royal Palace of Rabat to present to the late HM Hassan II their oath of allegiance and reaffirm their bonds of unwavering attachment to the Glorious Alaouite Throne.

By this solemn and highly patriotic act, the inhabitants of Oued Eddahab have signified that they will never sell out their Moroccan identity, by affirming their attachment to their homeland and its sacred territorial integrity from Tangier to Lagouira, despite the maneuvers of the adversaries.

It was a historic moment immortalized by the speech in which the Late Sovereign had affirmed: “We have just received, on this blessed day, your oath of allegiance, which We will preserve and keep preciously, like a sacred deposit. From now on, you must honor this oath. On Our side, We also make it a duty to guarantee your defense and your security and to work tirelessly for your well-being. Be therefore, My dear sons, welcome to your Homeland. Let us give thanks to the Almighty for having filled Us with his blessings by attaching the South of Our country to its Northern part and by restoring the blood ties between its sons.”

During this ceremony, the late HM Hassan II also distributed weapons to representatives of the tribes, a strong and symbolic gesture of the continuation of the fight for the defense of territorial integrity and the establishment of security in the recovered Provinces.

Few months passed before the meeting between the architect of the Glorious Green March and the sons of the Province of Oued Eddahab was renewed on the occasion of the historic visit made by the Regretful Sovereign to Dakhla.

This visit has once again confirmed the perfect symbiosis between the glorious Alaouite Throne and the sons of the Southern Provinces. This unbreakable bond which constitutes the cement of the cohesion of the Nation, has thwarted all the maneuvers plotted by the enemies of the territorial integrity of Morocco.

Since then, the Kingdom has worked towards the economic and social promotion of its Southern Provinces, with a view to integrating them into the process of global and sustainable development.

The historic return of this dear part of Moroccan territory to the Fatherland was the result of a long-term struggle waged over several decades by Morocco to complete its independence and territorial integrity.

The celebration of this anniversary is an opportunity to remember the high significance of this event which embodies the unwavering attachment of the population of the Province to the Sovereign and the Alaouite Throne and their constant mobilization for the defense of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, during the recovery of the city of Tarfaya on April 15, 1958, then of Sidi Ifni on June 30, 1969 and other parts of the Moroccan Sahara thanks to the epic of the Green March on November 6, 1975.

Persevering on the path traced by His August Father, His Majesty King Mohammed VI pays particular attention to the Southern Provinces, ensuring economic growth there and consolidating national mobilization to foil all conspiracies of the enemies of the territorial integrity of Morocco.

Today, 45 years after the recovery of the Province of Oued Eddahab, development efforts have continued in this expensive part of Moroccan territory, with a view to establishing it as a true economic hub.

Thus, since the recovery of the Moroccan Southern Provinces, major projects have been launched to implement investment and development projects and programs at the economic, social, urban, cultural and human levels, with a view to establishing a resilient regional economy, providing wealth and jobs.

Four decades after their liberation, the Provinces and Regions of Southern Morocco are living to the rhythm of sustained dynamics in various areas.

In this line, a series of multi-sector structuring projects have been launched in the Region, namely the megaproject of the Dakhla Atlantique port, the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway, the West Africa Free Zone project and the 5,000 Ha irrigation project by seawater desalination, as well as projects linked to renewable energies.

In fact, the Province of Oued Eddahab has become an investment platform, given its tax advantages, its economic potential, its natural assets and its strategic geographical position, in addition to its qualified human resources thanks to the establishment of specialized institutes and schools aimed at meeting the needs of the labor market.

In addition, the Region has three industrial zones, namely “the port industrial zone”, “the Assalam industrial zone” and “the Al Massira industrial zone”, in addition to economic units specializing in the food industry, construction materials and shipyards for the construction of boats.

Today, the Province of Oued Eddahab can boast of having recorded a qualitative leap in the economic, urban and social fields, given that it is now part of the hubs of both national and international investments, particularly in the areas of maritime fishing, industry, agriculture, tourism and renewable energies.

The new development model for the Southern Provinces, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in Laayoune in 2015, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Green March, also laid the foundations for the development process, aimed at strengthening the various aspects related to the social, economic, cultural and environmental components.
