High prices of meat and fish force Moroccans to follow vegetarian diet

Heba Press – Rabat

In recent weeks, the prices of red and white meat and fish have increased significantly.

The prices of red meat reached “150 dirhams for mutton”, “120 dirhams for beef” and 150 dirhams for “goat”. The prices of live chicken also varied between 25 and 30 dirhams per kilo, and 50 and 75 dirhams for slaughtered chicken.

Fish prices also increased significantly due to the growing demand from citizens, as the price of sardines most consumed by Moroccans reached 25 dirhams, and that of white fish varied between 70 and 180 dirhams.

Faced with this high cost, a number of citizens have been forced to follow a vegetarian diet, consuming vegetables and legumes.

Citizens have expressed their discontent with this still high cost, demanding the need to take urgent and concrete solutions to protect the purchasing power of Moroccans from all social classes.
