Barcelona starts the new season with a victory over Valencia (1-2)

Poland’s Robert Lewandowski led Barcelona to an important 2-1 away win over Valencia on Saturday night in the first round of the 2024-25 Spanish League competition.

The match started at a moderate pace before picking up steam as time went on, with both teams failing to show any serious attack for the first half hour, so the referee stopped play to allow the players to take doses of water, before Hugo Duro managed to visit goalkeeper André Ter Stegen in the 44th minute with a magnificent header.

Barcelona’s reaction was not long in coming, and it was thanks to Marc Casado in the minute (45 + 2) with a low shot that was blocked by the defense instead of the goalkeeper, so it was Lewandowski’s turn and he managed to score the equalizer in the minute (45 + 5) after following a pass from Lamine Yamal with a successful shot on net.

Lewandowski returned to his favourite pastime in the 49th minute by scoring the second goal from a penalty won by Brazilian Rafinha after a foul inside the box by defender Christian Mosquera, then Ferran Torres missed the chance to kill the game off in the 58th minute when he missed a clear one-on-one with the Vancia goalkeeper.

Barcelona’s stars navigated the final minutes of the clash to emerge victorious with the first three points of the new season, in their bid to regain the title that Real Madrid won last season, while Valencia will look to make up for it in the next round when they travel away from home to face Celta Vigo.
