In figures: The prices of fish, fruit and fuel have increased… and Rachidia is the “cheapest” in the country

The High Commission for Planning indicated that the indicative figure for consumer prices recorded an increase of 1.3 percent during the month of July, compared to the same month of 2023.
The delegation explained, in an information note concerning the indicative consumer price figure for the month of July 2024, that this increase resulted from an increase in non-food prices of 1.8 per cent and in food prices of 0.5 per cent.
According to the same source, the rates of change for non-food products varied between a decrease of 1.2 percent for “health” and an increase of 3.8 percent for “housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.”
Compared to June 2024, the indicative figure for consumer prices recorded a decrease of 0.2 percent in July. This decrease is the result of a decrease in the index for food products of 0.5 percent and an increase in the index for non-food products of 0.1 percent.
The decreases in food prices recorded between June and July 2024 included the prices of “vegetables” by 6.5 percent, “milk, cheese and eggs” by 1 percent, and “oils and oils” by 0.5 percent. Conversely, the prices of “fish and seafood” increased by 4.7 percent, those of “fruit” by 0.9 percent and those of “sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets” by 0.4 percent.
The delegation stressed that as regards non-food products, the increase in the price of “fuels” increased by 1.3 percent. The indicative figure recorded the most significant decreases in Errachidia by 1.1 percent, in Safi by 1 percent, in Fez, Marrakech and Dakhla by 0.5 percent, in Agadir and Rabat by 0.4 percent and in Oujda, Meknes and Settat by 0.3 percent.
Increases were recorded in Laayoune and Beni Mellal of 0.5 percent, in Kenitra of 0.4 percent and in Tangier and Guelmim of 0.2 percent.
Thus, the core inflation index, which excludes price-specific items and items with high volatility, increased in July 2024 by 0.1 percent compared to June 2024 and by 2.1 percent compared to July 2023.
