23 dead and 2,883 injured… the toll of road accidents in cities in one week

23 people were killed and 2,883 others injured, including 107 seriously, in 2,086 road accidents recorded in urban areas during the week of August 12-18.
A report from the General Directorate of National Security attributes the main reasons that led to the occurrence of these accidents, in particular to the inattention of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, failure to respect a safety distance, excessive speed, lack of attention of pedestrians, lack of control, change of direction without signaling and failure to respect… Parking imposed with a “Stop” sign, unauthorized change of direction, driving on the left, failure to respect parking imposed with a “Stop” sign, red light, driving in a prohibited direction, driving while intoxicated, as well as improper overtaking.
Regarding the surveillance and repression operations in the traffic and in the Golan area, the same source added, the security services were able to record 45,088 violations, complete 6,461 reports which were transmitted to the public prosecutor and extract 38,627 conciliation fines, bringing the amount obtained to 8 million 483 thousand 325 dirhams.
The report states that the number of vehicles placed in the municipal pound reached 4,844 vehicles, the number of documents withdrawn was 6,461 documents and the number of vehicles subject to arrest was 226 vehicles.
