Four years after winning gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Moroccan world champion in the 400m (T47), Ayoub Sadni, will be back at the Paris 2024 Games. His ultimate goal: to regain his place on the top step of the podium.
Accustomed to hoisting the national flag in various world events, setting records along the way, the Moroccan champion will be eagerly awaited to repeat his “Japanese” feat.
To this end, the Moroccan athlete, returning from injury, is continuing his preparations, according to a program that he defined with his coach.
“The preparations are going on in an orderly manner. Due to an injury, I was forced to change my training program. After my recovery, I am trying, crescendo, to increase the pace to find my usual rhythm,” Ayoub Sadni said.
In a statement to MAP, he stressed that he has managed to recover from a knee injury, which forced him to take a 3-month break, thanks in particular to the efforts of the medical staff. “I now feel fully fit to aim for a new Paralympic medal and a new record,” he said.
However, Ayoub Sadni noted that the competition will be fierce, especially with Brazilian athletes.
For his part, Mohamed Sandaoui, national technician and supervisor of Ayoub Sadni, noted that this year was difficult for the Moroccan athlete because of the injury, stating that the Paralympic champion has resumed his training and aspires to retain his gold medal.
In this sense, he highlighted the role of the technical staff of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (FRMSPSH) which allowed Ayoub Sadni to return to the slopes, particularly in Spain, Germany and Belgium.
Ayoub Sadni had broken the world record at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In 2023, he participated in the World Championships in Paris. His determination led him to achieve a remarkable time of 46.78, surpassing his own world record.
In the meantime, he broke the world record in 2022 at the Grand Prix which also took place in France.
Morocco is taking part in the 17th Paralympic Games (Paris-2024) with 38 athletes. They will participate in the events of para athletics (motor and visual impairment), wheelchair tennis, para powerlifting, para taekwondo, para road cycling and blind football.
