The first phase of CAF’s executive programme kicked off this week, with the Confederation of African Football partnering with the University of Cape Town, ranked among the top institutes of higher education in Africa, to deliver a first-of-its-kind executive education programme for football leaders on the continent.
This CAF programme, developed in collaboration with UCT, is in line with the vision and commitments of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe to increase efficiency and professionalism in African football – a vision that is reflected in the remarkable progress of African football in recent years.
A total of 23 Secretaries General of CAF Member Associations and Zonal Unions are present. The first phase of the programme took place virtually from 19 to 22 August, before the final phase where all delegates are invited to complete the programme at the University of Cape Town in South Africa between 1 and 7 September 2024.
This 20-day programme is orchestrated by highly qualified and experienced academic and sports industry experts, who mobilise their complementary expertise to design a programme aimed at providing African football leaders with the essential tools for the strategic growth of football on the continent.
The program covers different modules, such as Strategic Planning, Operational and Financial Strategy, Law and Governance, Marketing and Sponsoring, as well as Event Management, among others.
The four key strategic objectives of the CAF Executive Programme are:
– Improve the skills and expertise of African football stakeholders.
– Strengthen the capacity of stakeholders within the 54 member associations of CAF.
– Stimulate innovation and encourage football leaders to broaden their strategic insight and strengthen their leadership capabilities.
– Contribute to the advancement and sustainability of African football.
Through a partnership between CAF and the University of Cape Town, the CAF programme has been launched in an online format. An official opening ceremony will take place on 1 September, with the participation of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Moshabela. The programme will conclude on 7 September with a graduation ceremony for all participants.
