Morocco’s pioneering experience in the field of energy transition was reviewed at the Northern Seas Business Conference, currently taking place in Stavanger, Norway.

The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, who represents Morocco at this high-level event opened by Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, highlighted the significant progress made by the Kingdom in the field of renewable energy.

The Minister also addressed, in her speech at the opening session entitled “Towards a more sustainable and resilient future”, alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Sture, the main axes of Morocco’s strategy in the energy field, in particular energy security, the scale of the projects implemented and the speed of their implementation.

During this conference, which was attended by the Kingdom’s ambassador to Norway, Nabila Fredji, the minister also stressed the importance of international partnerships to successfully achieve the energy transition.

He noted that Morocco, given its potential and the experience it has acquired in this promising field, is positioning itself as a major player in global efforts to achieve a successful transition in the energy field.

The Minister also took part in a panel discussion yesterday, Sunday, on the sidelines of the North Seas Business Conference, focusing on the theme “Critical Issue: Addressing Dependencies in Clean Technology Supply Chains”.

Ms. Benali highlighted Morocco’s role as a strategic corridor for global supply chains, stressing the importance of recycling critical metals to ensure their long-term sustainability, and encouraging innovation and incentives to address the importance of critical metals.

On the sidelines of the conference, the government official held several bilateral meetings with key stakeholders, including Norwegian ministers, including Energy Minister Jeri Osland and Environment Minister Andreas Bjæland Eriksen.

The Minister also held meetings with operators and stakeholders from Norway and other countries in the field of energy. These meetings represented an opportunity to highlight the potential for cooperation between Morocco and Norway in areas related to the energy transition.

It is worth noting that the North Seas Business Conference provides an important space to discuss current issues in the energy sector, including decarbonisation, technological innovation and geopolitical changes.
