Salé authorities free public property in Laaida district… and “the people concerned”: “They wanted us to leave and let’s go.”
Heba Press – Salty
In recent days, local authorities in the city of Salé have launched a massive campaign to free public property from street vendors and “butterfly” owners.
The authorities’ bulldozers demolished the barracks of the “Oued El Dahab” market, which had been used for years, and also removed the facades of several stores that used the sidewalks and adjacent spaces.
Authorities prevented the owners of “butterflies” and street vendors from displaying their goods in the “La Ayida” market and “Al-Nasr” street, warning them against violating the laws and trying to hinder the silk production process.
In this regard, a number of affected vendors have expressed their dissatisfaction with the campaign, which coincides with a wave of high prices and school admissions.
One of the people involved said: “We used to serve them with our arm and bring them what was permitted, and they would come and go, fall asleep and not sell hashish.”
The affected people called on the authorities concerned to provide them with commercial spaces to enable them to buy and sell under appropriate conditions.
