Important events in September / European Heritage Day

They have become essential events and each year attract large crowds to the most beautiful monuments and places of power, which are generally particularly popular.

They were actually established (in this form) in 1991 by the Council of Europe, with the support of the European Union. But as they took over the old “Open Days of Historical Monuments” created in 1984 by the French Ministry of Culture

They were originally held on the 3rd Sunday in September and have gone a little beyond this strict framework by extending over an entire weekend.

Everything (or almost) can be visited

Castles, churches, public monuments, works of art, remarkable gardens, houses of famous women and men, almost everything can be visited. Each region, each municipality concocts its program, as original as possible.
