Excitement is building around the FIFA Futsal World Cup™ in Uzbekistan after FIFA and adidas unveiled the official ball for the competition.
Inspired by the competition’s slogan, “Masters of Speed,” its design reflects the fast-paced game of futsal, as well as Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage. The ball is adorned with five kalampir peppers, a staple ingredient in traditional local cuisine, each brilliantly rendered to evoke a player in action.
The vegetable is also featured on the official emblem of the competition, which is inspired by the shape of the official competition trophy with five kalampir peppers curling at its top to form the ball.
The new official ball will be unveiled at the opening match of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024™ on 14 September in Bukhara. The capital Tashkent and Andijan, located in the east of the country, are the other two host cities. The 2024 edition, the tenth in the history of the Futsal World Cup, will run until 6 October.
Over the past decade, futsal has grown rapidly in Uzbekistan and the rest of Central Asia. The White Wolves participated in their first World Cup in 2016. In 2021, they reached the round of 16, only to lose 9-8 to IR Iran in one of the most thrilling matches of the competition.
At home, the Uzbeks will meet the Portuguese title holders, Brazil (record holders with five titles, in 1989, 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2012), Spain (double champion, in 2000 and 2004) and Argentina (winner in 2016). Afghanistan, France, New Zealand and Tajikistan will participate in their first Futsal World Cup. Angola, Costa Rica, Croatia, Guatemala, Iran, Kazakhstan, Libya, Morocco, the Netherlands, Panama, Paraguay, Thailand, Ukraine and Venezuela complete the list of participants.
