Despite the resumption of exports, the price of onions has fallen to around 50 cents per kilogram on the wholesale market.

The selling prices of onions have seen a significant drop in several wholesale markets, notably the fruit and vegetable market in Casablanca.
According to private data, the wholesale price of onions over the past two days has reached between 50 and 80 cents per kilogram.
Professionals attribute this significant drop in the price of onions, which went from around ten dirhams to less than one dirham, to several reasons, including the large supply after the majority of farmers resorted to growing onions during this period of the year, especially after their price increased on the market.
Professionals expected the selling price of onions to continue to decline and stabilize at its minimum levels as long as the government is determined to maintain the “quota” condition for exporting onions to African markets.
The authorities had relatively allowed exporters to resume their onion exports to foreign markets, but they set a certain percentage for each destination to ensure that the domestic market is supplied with sufficient onions, lest local supply decrease and prices further increase.
