With the launch of the national population and housing census in early September and the incitement of citizens not to respond to census researchers via social media sites, as well as the statements of Ahmed Al-Halimi Al-Alami, the High Commissioner for Planning, in which he threatened citizens who did not answer the census questions to “report” them and include them in the category of those who do not belong to the national group.
The articles of law governing population and housing census operations, in particular law no. 001-71 of June 16, 1971, provide for fines in accordance with the requirements of chapter 609 of the Penal Code, in the event of “non-compliance with census procedures or intentionally incorrect declarations.
Lawyers believe that there is a clear sanction that governs the census, and that it contains a single sanction against those who do not wish to participate in this process or who have provided incorrect data.
