The production company “JE Films” announces the release of the highly anticipated Moroccan film “TRIPLE A” by the talented director Jihane El Bahhar, from September 11, 2024. This release is part of a national film tour aimed at presenting this exceptional film, which has won major awards at various festivals, to the Moroccan public.
“TRIPLE A” is a drama and dark comedy that addresses sensitive social issues. It tells the stories of characters living on the fringes of society and aspiring to achieve their dreams despite the difficulties. The film stands out for its unique blend of drama and comedy, bringing balance to the strong themes it deals with. It is a work that tells three love stories whose protagonists are marginalized, and whose destinies intersect in unexpected ways.
The main roles are played by star Majdouline Idrissi, comedy star Aziz Dadas, Hind Benjbara, Khalil Oubaqqa, Fatima Zahra Bennacer, Abdelatif Chaouqi, as well as a host of the best Moroccan actors. Director and screenwriter Jihane El Bahhar, in collaboration with screenwriter Nadia Kamali Marwazi, have managed to write a film that mixes drama and black comedy, which gives it a distinctive character. They were inspired by real characters and stories, relying on refined poetic passages expressing love and humanity, taken from the book “The Prophet” by Khalil Gibran.
The film was shot during the lockdown period, which added production and logistical challenges for the team. Despite these difficulties, the team managed to present a high-quality film, which was awarded numerous prizes at various festivals around the world. It won the Best Foreign Film Award at the Soho International Film Festival in the United States, the Audience Award at the Maghreb Film Festival in Haarlem, the Netherlands, the Jury Prize at the Naples International Film Festival in Italy… It also participated in the official competition of the Salerno Film Festival during its 77th edition, as well as at the Marrakech International Film Festival in 2023 in the Panorama of Moroccan Cinema section… and in many other international film events.
It is worth noting that Jihane El Bahhar is one of the leading figures of Moroccan cinema. Born in Casablanca, she worked for television as a screenwriter and director. After extensive training in Morocco and abroad in disciplines essential to the film industry, Jihane El Bahhar made her debut in 2006 with her first short film “Shift+supp” which won awards at several national and international festivals, including the screenplay prize at the eighth edition of the Beirut International Festival.
The film “Lost Soul” remains a landmark work in the director’s career, after winning the Critics’ Award and the Best Screenplay Award at the National Film Festival in Tangier. This successful milestone was followed by another short film entitled “Last Chapter” which consolidated her talent as a promising director, justifying the expectations of critics and moviegoers for her first adventures in feature films with “In Wonderland”, her first feature film, then “TRIPLE A”, her second feature film.
They said about the film:
– Mohamed Bakrim – Moroccan film critic
“Jihane El Bahhar places the margin at the center of the narrative. In fact, there is a Pasolinian touch in the story of the descent into hell (…) and El Bahhar does not hesitate to show the details, but she does not emphasize them for the stylistic effect, but to demonstrate and illustrate to what extent greed and the thirst for easy money can corrupt the social fabric at the expense of fundamental values. By showing the ravages of extreme poverty, the film constitutes a merciless critique, in the vein of the great Italian social comedy.
For Jihane El Bahhar, comedy is the best way to depict a harsh reality. The film hides nothing (…) It is like this exceptional character embodied by Souad (brilliantly interpreted by Majdouline Idrissi): a real nurse / fake nurse resembling an angel hiding a monster.
Sheena Oberoi – American Film Critic
“Jihane El Bahhar’s directorial mastery shines in “Triple A,” where she captures the emotional depth of her characters and breathes life into their stories through sensitive direction. The film is a true showcase of her talent as a director, but also of the collective teamwork behind it.
El Bahhar’s work is not just a film; it is a mirror held up to society, reflecting truths often hidden by dominant narratives. His ability to shape these stories and his commitment to giving voice to the marginalized deserve praise.”
