Beni Mellal: A report on the cause of repeated interruptions of drinking water and the schedule for its treatment

The Central Regional Directorate of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, water sector, concludes in a report that, following the good rains that the Beni Mellal region experienced during the past week, the Bine El Ouidane dam, which is the main source of the Afourer treatment plant that supplies the city of Beni Mellal with drinking water, received for consumption, a significant quantity of water amounting to more than 10 million cubic meters.
This led to an increase in the percentage of sludge in the water of the dam reservoir, the filling rate of which is known to be a sudden and exceptional decrease, which affected the quality of raw water, as it became impossible to treat the water with the necessary quality, which forced the interests of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water to stop supplying the city of Beni Mellal with water, from this station, it was limited to supplying it with drinking water from the Ain Asardoun treatment plant. and groundwater from the water points of Sidi Gaber, which led to a temporary deficit in the supply of drinking water to the city and surrounding areas that reached 50%.
In this regard, the interests of the office worked intensively and continuously to restart the station as soon as possible, in coordination with all stakeholders, which was gradually achieved on the morning of Tuesday, September 3, 2024, while the production of this station resumed its normal level on the evening of the same day.
The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water confirms that its teams are working hard and dedicatedly with all stakeholders involved to secure the drinking water supply to the city of Beni Mellal and its surroundings in the best conditions.
