More than 8.112 million students expected for the 2024/2025 school year

More than 8.112 million students will join schools for the new 2024/2025 school year, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports has indicated.

Thus, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, supervised, on Wednesday at the Al Massira Al Khadra primary school in Tahnnaout in the province of Al Haouz, the start of the new school year, with the gradual return to class of students and children enrolled in preschool education according to the dates planned for each cycle and level, the ministry said in a press release.

Classes will begin effectively on Monday, September 9 for all cycles and levels of education in all educational establishments, the same source said.

Public education will welcome approximately 6.976 million students, including 3.716 million students in primary education, representing a decrease of 1.3% in the number of students enrolled in this cycle, 2.025 million students in secondary education, an increase of 5.5%, and approximately 1.235 million students in qualifying secondary education (+12.7%), it is specified.

Regarding new enrollments in public education, their number should reach more than 1.813 million students, including 585,000 enrolled in the first year of primary education, 625,000 in the first year of secondary education and 453,000 in common core courses.

In line with its strategy of generalizing and developing primary education, particularly in rural areas, as a lever for improving the quality of the education system, approximately 984,000 students are enrolled in primary education, including 642,000 in public primary education, the statement continued.

In order to ensure a place for every student in public education and to reduce class overload and the number of multi-level classes, the educational offer has been strengthened by the construction of 189 new establishments, 68% of which are in rural areas, with 10 community schools, thus bringing the number of educational establishments at the national level to approximately 12,300, 56% of which are in rural areas.

In addition, 3,492 classrooms were created as part of the expansion of educational establishments, 59% of which were in rural areas.

Accommodation spaces have been strengthened with the creation of 15 new boarding schools in rural areas, bringing the number of boarding schools nationally to 1,103, 68% of which are located in rural areas, the ministry said, noting that more than 288,000 teachers, including 18,000 new ones, will be responsible for the education and training of students in public education.

Given the important role of social support in encouraging schooling, improving academic results and combating school dropout, the current school year will be marked by the application of the new formula for implementing the royal initiative “One Million Wallets”, within the framework of the National Initiative for Human Development.

This initiative should benefit more than 3.053 million students, given that additional amounts will be paid to families benefiting from the direct social assistance system (200 dirhams for primary and secondary college), specifies the ministry, noting that the scope of this aid has been expanded to include qualifying secondary education, in the sense that the families concerned should receive a financial allowance of 300 dirhams.

Regarding accommodation, the number of beneficiaries of school boarding services is expected to reach more than 147,000, an increase of 9.5%, while around 639,000 students, 58% of whom are girls, will benefit from school transportation.

In order to ensure the stability of school textbook prices for the current year in order to encourage schooling and preserve the purchasing power of families, the government has granted publishers financial support of 25% of the sale price of textbooks for primary and qualifying secondary levels.

The Ministry called on the various educational and administrative stakeholders and all partners to continue their mobilization and commitment to the implementation of the reforms, projects and structuring initiatives that will characterize the current school year and which aim to achieve a global transformation of the performance of educational establishments, to strengthen the mastery of basic skills, to strengthen the development of students and to fight against school dropout, in accordance with the strategic objectives of the 2022-2026 roadmap “For a quality public school for all”.
