Morocco is participating in the 100th World Ski Games 2024, which will be held in Italy from September 6 to 22.
The opening ceremony of the event, which will host the General Assembly of the International Roller Federation and the world championships of urban sports such as roller skating, skateboarding and motocross, was held in Rome on Thursday.
Morocco is represented at this event by a delegation led by Mounir Globo Massari, vice-president of the Royal Moroccan University of Urban and Related Sports.
Globo Massari stressed that this sporting event includes high-level competitions, with around 156 medals distributed to the winners.
He explained that three Moroccan athletes, including a girl, will compete in different stages of the 12 sports included in the program, including skateboarding, free skating, speed skating, downhill skating, as well as speed skating.
He added that Morocco is participating in this centenary session of the World Ski Games alongside a hundred countries, represented in these urban sports by around 12,000 participants, including racers and coaches.
During the opening ceremony, Mr. Al-Masari presented a gift to the President of the International Roller Federation, Sabatino Araco, in the form of a skateboard in the national colors, designed by a Moroccan artist, combining modern art and traditional decorations.
Italy will host the 2024 World Ski Games after the editions in Nanjing (China, 2017), Barcelona (Spain, 2019) and Buenos Aires (Argentina, 2022). The competitions of the current session will take place in several Italian cities.
