Provisional report: 18 dead and 4 missing due to heavy rains

In an updated assessment of the losses and damage caused by the very heavy stormy rains experienced by a number of prefectures and regions of the Kingdom, as of Monday evening, September 9, 2024, eighteen deaths were recorded in each of the provinces of Tata (ten people) and Errachidia (three people including two foreigners, one of Canadian nationality and the other of Peruvian nationality), Tiznit (two people), Tinerhir (two people including a foreigner of Spanish nationality) and Taroudant (one person).

As for the missing persons, a list of four missing persons in the Tata region has been compiled and the search is continuing continuously and diligently.

Regarding material losses, the affected areas recorded the following temporary toll:

56 houses collapsed, 27 of which completely collapsed.
Total or partial collapse of eight medium-sized technical installations.
Damage was caused to the power supply networks, drinking water networks and telephone networks. Field interventions carried out by technical teams have enabled a significant part of the power network to be repaired, while full reconnection to drinking water networks and communication services has been ensured.
Temporary interruptions on 110 road sections, with the relevant authorities having so far managed to restore normal traffic on 84 of them.

The various public authorities are working to globally mobilize all the human resources and logistical means necessary to deal quickly and effectively with this exceptional situation and to take all appropriate measures to provide support to citizens, in particular by distributing food rations, tents and blankets to disaster-stricken families, and to work towards the rapid resumption of services and connectivity networks in the areas concerned.
