Yesterday, Monday, customs and national security officers working at the Bab Ceuta border post were able to seize, through forced labor, large sums of money that a traveler was planning to bring into the national territory without carrying out the necessary customs declaration procedures.

A customs source reported that customs and national security officers at the Ceuta border post discovered, during a routine check of vehicles and passengers, more than 254,000 euros and 1,800 Chinese yuan, with a total value equivalent to 2.74 million dirhams, from a Senegalese traveler.

The same source explained that a small part of these sums of money was placed in the traveler’s luggage for camouflage purposes, while 200,000 euros were hidden in packages in caches prepared in the dashboard and gear lever of the car numbered in Spain.

The driver of the car was referred to the Judicial Police of the city of M’diq to further the investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while the Directorate of Customs and Indirect Taxes seized the car and hard currency for the benefit of the investigation.
