Signing of an agreement for the establishment of the headquarters of the Committee of African Capitals of Culture in Morocco

The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, signed on Tuesday in Rabat an agreement between the Committee of African Capitals of Culture and the government of the Kingdom of Morocco aimed at establishing the headquarters of the committee in Morocco.

The ministry said in a statement that Bensaid signed the agreement with Mr. Michel Saba, on behalf of the Committee of African Capitals of Culture, who also serves as an expert with UNESCO in the field of culture and arts.

She explained that, according to this agreement, the Kingdom will host the headquarters of the Committee of African Capitals of Culture, after the approval of this agreement, in accordance with the decision of the Executive Council of the African Union held in Nairobi in July 2023, based on the report of the Specialized Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports of the African Union.

According to the same source, this approach is part of the high royal vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which aims to work with and for Africa, while South-South cooperation is part of the foundations of the Kingdom’s foreign policy under the leadership of His Excellency King Mohammed VI. Majesty the King.

He added that Morocco will host the headquarters of this committee, considered as a program of the African Union that stimulates creativity and aims at the exchange between different African cultures, as well as a promising program for the art and culture of major African cities and their development. This initiative will also contribute to strengthening cultural cooperation.

The communication explains that among the responsibilities of the committee is to ensure the organization of African cultural events and to select the capitals of African culture in the different countries of the African continent.

He stressed that Rabat was chosen as the African capital of culture for the year 2023, and that the event was distinguished by the organization of important cultural events to promote African culture.
