The spectacle of the proliferation of stray dogs in the streets of the city of Tangier has become a very worrying subject, due to its impact on the health of citizens and on the aesthetics of the “capital of insects”, despite the assurances given previously regarding the state of health of these animals.

Several citizens have noticed the spread of groups of dogs in several neighborhoods that experience high activity, such as the “Malabata” neighborhood and the Place des Nations in the center of the city of Tangier, in addition to neighborhoods characterized by a high concentration of dogs. population density, such as the “Hasani Complex”, the “Bir al-Shifaa” neighborhood and other main streets. This now requires the intervention of the competent authorities to avoid the transmission of diseases due to these animals or the exposure of citizens to these animals. bites, as has already happened with a Moroccan minister who had filed a complaint in this regard against the competent authorities.

It should be noted that the Collective Council of Tangier had unanimously approved, during the ordinary session of February 2023, a partnership agreement aimed at creating a reserve for dogs, cats and stray animals in the city, as part of the new public health approach, through the involvement of doctors, veterinarians, non-governmental organizations and civil society associations with experience and working in the field of prevention.

It should also be noted that the competent authorities had already executed a number of stray dogs that posed a threat to the lives of citizens of the city of Tangier due to their rabies infection, but the voices of several bodies and organizations concerned with the protection of animals Human rights have risen to demand an end to the slaughter of these animals in the absence of any evidence. A clear vision of this situation, emphasizing that the city of Tangier is a candidate for global rights in the future.
