Police force traveler to pay for plane fuel for this reason!

In Australia, a man was forced to pay fuel costs for a commercial flight that was cancelled due to his poor driving, leading to the flight being grounded before it even took off.

The actions of a West Australian man on a flight from Perth to Sydney caused the plane to return to the west coast capital, where fuel was spilled before landing, the New York Post reports.

Airline employees contacted Australian police for assistance and the man was arrested and charged when the incident happened on September 25 last year.

Appearing in Perth District Court on Friday, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on board and failing to comply with safety instructions.

The court ordered him to pay more than $8,630 in damages to the airline to cover the cost of fuel for the flight, as well as a $9,000 fine.

Australian Federal Police Acting Inspector Shona Davis said people who cause disruption to flights should expect to be held accountable for their unlawful actions.

“This incident should serve as a warning that bad behavior on board can be costly for the perpetrator,” Davis said.

She continued: “It is much easier to follow the instructions of airline employees than to cause unnecessary problems, which could end up damaging your money.” The police are committed to ensuring a safe journey for all travellers, from the time they depart until they arrive at their destination.
