First anniversary of the Al Haouz earthquake: Reminder

Last Sunday, September 8, 2024, marks the first anniversary of one of the great tragedies that deeply struck Morocco, with an earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitude that swept the entire Al Haouz Region.

An earthquake that will remain etched in the memories of Moroccans as one of the most violent situations that Morocco has experienced since the Agadir earthquake.

That fateful night, thousands of people saw their lives turned upside down in a matter of seconds. Nearly two million people were affected, including 674,892 children.

The material losses also affected many homes, more than 530 schools and 55 boarding schools.

So, a year has passed and reconstruction is progressing, initiatives have been launched to rebuild not only the infrastructure, but also to restore hope to citizens.

A year after the earthquake, however, the psychological after-effects remain acute among the survivors of this tragedy.
