Mayara: “The Palestinian question remains a central axis of Morocco’s political, diplomatic and humanitarian action”
Hibapress
The Palestinian issue and the fate of Al-Quds Acharif were and will remain the cause of all Moroccans, King, government and people, and a central axis of the political, diplomatic and humanitarian action that Morocco is leading, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, affirmed, Tuesday in Rabat, the president of the House of Advisors, Enaam Mayara.
In a speech at the opening of the 52nd meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), Mr. Mayara recalled the call of His Majesty the King, reiterated on many occasions and stemming from the Sovereign’s commitment to peace, and in His capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to collective action, each from his position, for an immediate, comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, smoothly, in sufficient quantities to the population of Gaza, and a total rejection of all forms of forced displacement, collective punishment and retaliatory actions against the Palestinians.
Mr. Mayara noted on this occasion that this meeting constitutes an opportunity to discuss mechanisms capable of strengthening joint Islamic action in order to immediately put an end to all Israeli abuses and support the creation of a secure and stable Palestinian state in accordance with relevant international laws, noting that parliamentarians are required to redouble their efforts to launch urgent and active action in support of this cause by insisting on the imperative of protecting civilians and condemning all aggressions and violations suffered by the Palestinian people.
On the other hand, the Speaker of the House of Advisors stressed that the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are facing new generation economic, political, security, environmental and health crises, which require, more than ever, to assert the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity and synergy, and to federate efforts to design programs and projects to meet common challenges and achieve the development of the said countries.
In this regard, he noted that the African affiliation of the Kingdom of Morocco “always calls on us to highlight the importance of sustainable development and the strengthening of common Islamic cooperation for the benefit of African member states of the Organization and to support their economies through regional development initiatives and concrete measures aimed at ensuring the well-being and economic prosperity of African peoples”, recalling in this regard the Atlantic Initiative aimed at facilitating access for the countries of the Sahel and the Sahara to the Atlantic coast.
Morocco has been engaged for years in several initiatives aimed at effectively contributing to laying the foundations for coexistence and dialogue among civilizations, including the Initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, before the eleventh Islamic Summit held in Dakar in March 2008, and the launch of the Rabat Plan of Action in 2013 on the prohibition of the apology of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence, in addition to the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly unanimously, on July 25, 2023, of a resolution presented by the Kingdom concerning “the promotion of dialogue between religions and cultures and the promotion of tolerance in order to combat hate speech,” he said.
The strong involvement of the Kingdom of Morocco is also crystallized through the support of dialogue between cultures and civilizations, and the hosting of numerous forums and fora, such as the 9th World Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, held in Fez on November 22 and 23, 2022, and the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, organized in Marrakech on June 13, 2023, underlined Mr. Mayara.
And to conclude that parliamentary diplomacy seeks to play a fundamental role in developing a new, more equitable and beneficial world order, considering that the challenges facing the OIC countries require taking advantage of this mechanism as an effective tool to develop concrete and comprehensive policies, through the exchange of experiences and good practices in various fields, in order to address the multiple crises facing the Islamic world.
The agenda of this 52nd meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), which is being held on September 10-11 at the headquarters of the House of Representatives, includes several items including the election of the Bureau, the adoption of the agenda and the work program, the reading and adoption of the report of the Secretary General of the Union, the establishment of the draft agenda of the Standing Specialized Committees and Subcommittees, in addition to the adoption of the draft agenda of the 26th session of the General Committee of the Union and the 19th session of the PUIC Conference.
