Organized by the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and Argan (ANDZOA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the “Sustainable Oases Charter” project was at the center of a consultation workshop, the work of which began in Errachidia.

Enhanced by the participation of the Director General of ANDZOA Latifa Yaaqoubi, the President of the Regional Council of Drâa-Tafilalet Hro Abro, the FAO representative in Morocco Jean Senahoun in addition to elected officials, representatives of professional associations and civil society, this workshop spread over two days had the main objective of consulting and communicating on a certain number of themes through the project of developing the Charter of sustainable oases, as well as risk management at the level of these vulnerable ecosystems.

According to the organizers of this workshop, the “Sustainable Oasis Charter” project aims to obtain unanimous and lasting support for the protection and sustainable, integrated and landscape management of oasis agroecosystems in a participatory and concerted manner.

This project aims to develop a strategic vision and a practical and realistic action plan, allowing the strengthening of the resilience of oases to risks, noting that the development of oases is conditioned by the synergy and the federation of the efforts of several stakeholders at various levels of reflection, decision-making and daily practices.

The overall objective of the workshop is to consult and exchange ideas with all partners on the Oasis Charter, on risk management at the oasis level, as well as to present the first results on the assessment of the carbon footprint in the pilot sites and the two flagship sectors: date palms and argan trees.
