Morocco witnessed heavy rains that caused flooding last weekend, as users and social media accounts shared a video clip showing strong torrents sweeping away dozens of livestock.
The video shows muddy torrents sweeping away dozens of cattle.
The accompanying commentary read: “Cattle struggle to avoid drowning or being swept away by the torrent in Tata, southeastern Morocco.”
The video has received hundreds of thousands of views since it began circulating on September 8, following floods in southern Morocco on the night of Friday September 6 to Sunday, with Tata province among the worst hit.
However, the video showing floods washing away livestock has nothing to do with Morocco.
After cutting it into still scenes using the InVid tool, the search led to several copies published by Turkish news sites in recent years.
Accompanying comments indicated that the video documented flooding in Türkiye in June 2020.
According to the Turkish agency DHA, which released the video, these floods in the region of Argeş, in eastern Turkey, caused the death of 74 sheep.
