Moroccan tomatoes have flooded UK markets in recent months after department stores and businesses began to prefer importing Moroccan tomatoes over Spanish tomatoes, given the quality of Moroccan tomatoes and their low cost.
In this regard, the Horto Info Center, which specializes in the analysis of economic and agricultural data, indicated that Morocco’s share of the British tomato market stands at around 34 percent.
Over the past year, Morocco exported around 125.5 million kilograms of tomatoes to UK markets, worth €184 million and at an average price of €1.46 per kilogram, enabling Morocco, alongside the Netherlands, to acquire around 70 per cent of UK tomato imports, replacing Spain as one of the main exporting countries of tomatoes to Britain.
