On the occasion of World Patient Safety Day, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Professor Khaled Ait Taleb, accompanied by Meriem Bekdili, representative of the World Health Organization in Rabat, chaired the National Symposium on Patient Safety, where this year the World Health Organization chose the theme “Improving diagnosis for patient safety”. Under the slogan: “Diagnose well, maintain safety”, which emphasizes the importance of accurate diagnosis to protect patients.

In parallel with the holding of this national conference on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, a national awareness campaign will be launched which will last four weeks.

This campaign is part of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2023, adopted by the Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly in 2021. The campaign aims to raise awareness and mobilize health professionals to take concrete actions to improve patient safety, while encouraging them to adopt behaviors that keep them safe.

It should be noted that the patient plays a central role in ensuring the accuracy of the diagnosis by providing complete and accurate information about his symptoms and medical records, which helps him understand his health condition and reduces the risk of errors. Effective cooperation between patients and healthcare professionals helps improve health safety.

In this context, the Global Action Plan supports countries in adopting strategies to reduce possible errors in the diagnosis of the disease. This national symposium will present the latest developments in biomedical technologies combined with the digitalization of information systems, which offer health professionals solutions to improve diagnostic accuracy.

To address these challenges, efforts should be intensified to improve the diagnostic process, through the optimal use of information systems, digitalization of patient records and adoption of modern medical diagnostic techniques, as well as to reduce diagnostic errors through multidimensional interventions based on a comprehensive approach and effective engagement of patients, their families, health professionals and health sector decision-makers.
