The famous clothing brand “Kiabi” revealed that it had been the subject of a massive embezzlement, the value of which was estimated at 100 million euros, by its former secretary.
The chapters in this story began when the company noticed last July that large sums of money had mysteriously disappeared from its accounts.
The accused employee, “O’Reilly,” used a fraud method known as “bouncing accounts,” a complex technique that allows money to be transferred to other accounts without arousing immediate suspicion.
According to French media, O’Reilly was arrested in August at the airport in southern Corsica after getting off a private plane.
O’Reilly had left France and settled in Florida and Miami, where she lived a luxurious life full of travel, parties and luxury brands. She also launched several companies working in the field of luxury event planning and design.
O’Reilly now faces charges related to “massive organized fraud and money laundering” as she has been remanded in custody, and investigations are still ongoing to determine the extent of the actual damage and responsibilities in this matter.
