South Africa. Kaizer Chiefs player shot dead in Johannesburg kidnapping

The South African sporting community has been shocked by the death of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Flowers in a kidnapping.

Flowers had joined the Chiefs in October but was waiting to make his debut for the club.

In an official statement, Kaizer Chiefs announced the death of their young defender, shot dead during a kidnapping in Johannesburg.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that Luke Flowers tragically lost his life last night during a kidnapping incident in Johannesburg,” Kaizer Chiefs said in a statement.

“Our prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Authorities are investigating the matter and further information will be provided in due course. That his soul rests in peace.

Flowers, who died at the age of 24, had passed through the junior, youth and Olympic categories of the South African national team.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently eighth in the South African championship with 31 points, 18 points behind leader Sundowns.
