France… 70 kilograms of “cannabis” seized from the mayor

French authorities announced on Sunday that security forces had arrested the mayor of a town in the east of the country and two of her brothers after 70 kilograms of cannabis were found in her home.

Prosecutor Hugo du Phily told the “France Presse” agency that Jamila El Habzaoui, mayor of Avalon since 2021, was arrested after security forces searched her house and workplace as part of an investigation opened several weeks ago into drug trafficking in the small town of 6,000 inhabitants.
The prosecutor explained that investigators searched El Habzaoui’s house, the town hall building and the pharmacy where she works as a pharmacist, but did not specify the quantity of drugs found in her home.

However, a source close to the investigation said security forces seized at least 70 kilograms of cannabis from El Habzaoui.

According to the prosecutor, a total of seven people were arrested in connection with this case, including El Habzaoui and two of his brothers.

He added that the investigation also led to the seizure of 983 grams of cocaine, 7,000 euros in cash and around 20 gold bars.

The search was carried out as part of a national campaign to combat growing drug trafficking in French towns and villages.
