200 night vision glasses to Moroccan border guards by Spain: controversy in Spain

HIBAPRESS-RABAT
A contract for the delivery of 200 night vision glasses to Moroccan border guards by Spain sparked controversy in the columns of the Iberian press: the Civil Guard reportedly requested, without obtaining it, the same equipment intended to monitor the immigration and drug trafficking in the Strait of Gibraltar.
According to data published on February 16 on the Spanish public procurement portal, the contract is managed by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for the Administration of Public Policies (FIIAPP) and is intended for the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior within the framework of the project “Support for the integration of border and migration management in Morocco”. This includes “a technical guarantee, a training service and delivery to Morocco”.
The Spanish media argue that this allocation granted by Madrid to European funds was accelerated by Moncloa so “that everything is ready before Sánchez’s visit to Rabat last February”.
