38th Marathon des sables – First stage: Mohamed El Morabity announces the color

Moroccan Mohamed El Morabity won the first stage of the 38th Marathon des sables. This was contested yesterday Sunday over a distance of 31.1 km.
And as in the last editions, Mohamed was closely followed by his big brother Rachid El Morabity who set a time of 2 h 11 min 36 sec, 27 seconds behind. Another Moroccan distinguished himself during this first stage. This is Aziz Yachou, who came 3rd just 2 seconds behind second place.
Apart from a few difficulties, notably sandy passages and crevasses, this first stage was relatively smooth.
Aziza El Amrany leads women
On the women’s side, it was Aziza El Amrany who won at the end of the first stage. The Moroccan completed this stage in 2 h 45 min 54 sec, with a lead of around 26 min and 04 seconds over her immediate pursuer, the Moroccan Aziza Raji, who signed a time of 3h 11 min 58 seconds.
The Dutch Adriana Moser finished the race in 3rd place after completing the stage in 3 h 12 min 53 sec, 26 min 59 sec behind first place.
This edition promises to be historic. Participants have the challenge of completing 252 km spread over 6 stages. This is the longest timed distance ever offered in the history of the Marathon des Sables. Nearly 900 athletes from 58 countries will abandon everything to experience a human and sporting adventure that will push them to explore their limits.
