The Moroccan Sahara: Belgium welcomes the autonomy initiative

Belgium considers that the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007 represents “a serious and credible effort on the part of Morocco and a solid basis for reaching a solution acceptable to all parties”.

This position was expressed in the joint declaration adopted during the third meeting of the Morocco-Belgium Joint Partnership Commission, chaired Monday in Rabat by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.

Mr. De Croo reaffirmed on this occasion his country’s support for the process led by the United Nations with a view to achieving a just, lasting and acceptable political solution for all parties.
