All these parties worked to advance the results of negotiations with the city mayor, with the aim of creating a special place with an area of 1,500 square meters to bury the Muslim dead.
Fatna Al-Fadawi, a Moroccan activist, seems happy that the mayor of Latiano designated the Islamic cemetery because of the difficulty of transporting the dead to their ancestral lands and the importance of keeping the grave close to the family, “because that we believe in continuing the relationship between the family and the dead,” according to an exclusive statement to Hiba Press.
The spokesperson explained that the presence of an Islamic cemetery in Italy is of great importance for immigrants due to the specificity of the Islamic grave.
Civic activist Fatna Al-Fidawi hopes Latiano’s adjacent cemeteries will become a model for all of Italy. She believes that to achieve full societal integration, a person must have the right to decide whether they want their body to remain in Italy or transferred elsewhere.
Religious diversity in the city of Latiano is constantly growing alongside increasing tolerance among followers of religions within the framework of interfaith dialogue programs.
