Morocco and Spain commit to strengthening their cooperation in research and higher education

Morocco and Spain affirmed today, Wednesday in Madrid, their desire to strengthen their cooperation in the field of higher education and research, stressing that they will continue to work together to create new dynamics in their bilateral relations.

During a working meeting between the Spanish Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant Ribó, and the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdel Latif Mirawi, in presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, the two parties expressed their commitment to continuing to promote bilateral relations in the field of higher education, research and innovation.

The two ministers underlined the strategic importance of bilateral relations, in accordance with the commitments expressed in the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborhood and Cooperation, as well as within the framework of the enhanced political dialogue arising from the Joint Declaration adopted on April 7, 2022 .

The two parties agreed to advance bilateral relations in the fields of science, innovation and higher education, in light of the results of the twelfth Moroccan-Spanish High Level held in Rabat on February 2, 2023.

Mirawi stressed the importance of promoting the mobility of students and doctoral students as well as academic cooperation in research, innovation and supervision of doctoral students.

The ministers also welcomed the numerous agreements concluded today between Spanish universities and their Moroccan counterparts, affirming the commitment of the two countries to strengthen academic and scientific relations in higher education, and therefore to strengthen educational and research launched by universities in both countries.

At the end of this meeting, a joint declaration was signed by the two ministers, providing for the creation of a joint committee to oversee the implementation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding on research and development, signed during the twelfth Moroccan-Spanish High Level on February 2, 2023 in Rabat.

The committee, on the Moroccan side, is composed of the director of the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research, Jamila El Alami, the director of cooperation and partnership, Sanaa Ez Zabakh, the director of scientific research and innovation , Hamid Bouabid, and the director of higher education and educational development, Khaled Brada.

On the Spanish side, the committee includes the general secretary of research, Eva Ortega, the general secretary of innovation, Teresa Riesgo, the general secretary of universities, José Manuel Pingarrón, and the general director of planning, coordination and of knowledge transfer, Elisa Rivera.
