SIAM 2024: Holding of a high-level conference on agricultural research facing the challenge of climate change

Several high-level political figures, national and international decision-makers and experts, scientists and professionals from the sector took part in the conference. Organized on the sidelines of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), this high-level conference constitutes a major event for the agricultural sector. It offers a platform for meetings and exchanges between the different players in the sector: researchers, farmers, agricultural businesses, inter-professional organizations and political decision-makers. Its objectives are to discuss the issues and challenges of the sector, identify avenues for development and propose solutions. It also plays an important role in advancing agricultural research, disseminating knowledge, promoting innovation and improving the productivity and sustainability of the sector. This conference will strengthen collaboration between the different actors of agricultural research in Morocco by promoting partnerships between researchers, research institutions, agricultural companies and farmers, with the aim of developing innovative solutions adapted to the needs of the sector. In his opening remarks, the Minister stressed that agricultural research and innovation are more essential than ever to develop innovative solutions capable of significantly transforming our food systems. The objective is to make them more resilient, sustainable and of better quality, covering the entire value chain, from primary production to final consumption. He also called for intensifying efforts to support agricultural research in its crucial mission of adapting to the challenges of climate change, strengthening regional cooperation and promoting innovation, with a view to building a future where agriculture prospers despite climatic turbulence, which should help ensure food security and the well-being of all communities, today and for generations to come. Note that the Generation Green strategy makes agronomic research one of the fundamental levers in the transformation of agricultural and food production systems, the improvement of agricultural value chains and the agricultural and agri-food sector in Morocco. At the national level, a series of public policies have been put in place, marking the integration of national visions and strategic frameworks dedicated to research. These initiatives were supported by significant funding and budgets from both the State and other international partners, falling within the framework of regional and continental programs, thus demonstrating a desire for openness and cooperation beyond our borders to address the global challenges of agriculture. The high-level conference was an opportunity to address various topics, including agricultural research systems, strategic directions for agricultural research, as well as governance and resource management in the field of research. It is also an opportunity to share with stakeholders from different countries lessons learned to advance the research program and address the various challenges linked to climate change and food security, drawing on experiences and successful models of advanced agriculture. . Organized during the 16th edition of SIAM, the high-level conference includes plenary sessions and thematic workshops.
